Staying Downtown
If your goal is to score a budget hotel close to downtown Halifax you won’t find anything for under $100. The room rates range from approximately $130 to $215. Here are three of the cheapest.
The Atlantica Hotel Halifax is approximately a 20 minute walk from the city core.
Features clean rooms, comfy beds, a swimming pool and an on-site restaurant. Many guests praise the customer service.
The Four Points by Sheraton Halifax is right downtown, a two minute walk from the harbour and many other attractions, shopping and restaurants.

Outside the City Core
You’ll find more affordable hotel and motel accommodations if you venture 15-20 minutes beyond the Halifax downtown core.

There’s a movie theatre nearby as well as shopping and restaurants.
If you are interested in staying somewhere with a little added character the Commons Inn Halifax may be just the spot for you.
This quaint, older hotel is cozy and charming with antiques adding personality throughout. Rooms are clean and spacious and include a mini-fridge, TV and comfortable beds. The continental breakfast offers a long list of options—coffee, tea, muffins, cereal, yogurt, toast and more. There is also free parking.
Stay in Dartmouth and Save
Another way to save on your hotel stay in Halifax is to book a room across the harbour in Dartmouth.
In Dartmouth you can easily get yourself a room around the $100 mark or less and be within a 10 minute drive of the Alderney Ferry Terminal where you can hop on a ferry (for the thrifty fare of $3.50) and be across the water in 10 minutes to downtown Halifax.
